About Us

Friends of Lydney Hospital Trust was established to co-ordinate fundraising in support of Lydney Hospital and became a registered charity in 1979.

Following over 140 years of service to the community, Lydney Hospital has now closed, alongside Dilke Hospital, which recently marked its centenary. Both have been replaced by the new Forest Hospital in Cinderford.

In recent years, we have actively supported the case for improved local healthcare provision in Lydney, including the development of a new Medical Centre to replace services lost through the hospital’s closure. We welcome the confirmation that GP services are expected to relocate to a new Health Centre, provisionally planned for the former Co-operative building in Newerne Street. However, we continue to advocate for this facility to deliver a broader range of services for the benefit of the local community.

While our role is no longer focused on fundraising for a single hospital, our purpose remains unchanged: to support and enhance healthcare provision for the people of Lydney and the surrounding area. We are committed to working with and supporting local health-related charities and initiatives, including those associated with the new Health Centre.

Although we are no longer fund raising, we remain steadfast in our commitment to local healthcare and wish to support any local health charities in the area.
