The interests in my predecessors, who had worked so hard for the local Hospital, many of whom I Knew personally - George Hale, Ivor Griffiths, Mrs Ida Mullan and in particular my Uncle, Mr John Watts, to name but a few, always gave me a desire over many years to give a hand. With others from about 1960 I was a member of the Hospital Welfare Committee and we raised the whole of the monies for the Physiotherapy Unit in 1963/64.
From 1969 onward we called ourselves the FRIENDS OF LYDNEY & DISTRICT HOSPITAL as by this time we felt there was a keen local interest. Finally in 1979 a Charity was established with founders Mrs Jane Watts, Mr Alex Rogers, Mr Lyn Thomas and myself acting as the first Trustees and forming a working Committee.
